What Are Prescription Orthotics?
Prescription orthotics are medical appliances/shoe inserts that are made to correct individual foot imbalance.
Custom orthotic inserts allow the feet and lower legs to function at their highest potential. Orthotics can decrease pain, alleviate pressure, and increase stability in an unstable joint. In addition, orthotics are used to treat specific pathologies such as diabetes, plantar fasciitis, hammer toes, heel spurs, and arthritis. Orthotics can provide relief from a variety of symptoms including localized foot pain, bunions, arch/heel pain, leg/knee pain and hip/back pain.
Orthotics work by exerting gentle, consistent pressure to bring foot muscles and bones into proper alignment. They fit comfortably in shoes and are usually made of flexible molded thermoplastic. The devices are always made from custom precise impressions or a computer scan of your feet.
Most extended insurance companies cover custom foot orthotics. Please check with your extended benefits carrier for the following information:
- Is a referral letter required by a medical doctor?
- Does a chiropodist or podiatrist have to dispense the orthotics?
- How many pairs/year are you allowed? Yearly maximum?
- Does your insurance require a copy of the gait analysis and/or examination?

The process begins with a consultation, history of your foot and lower leg complaint, a gait analysis and biomechanical examination. At Williams Chiropractic & Wellness we care for the entire foot and understand that your foot health is crucial for overall well-being. If necessary, adjustments to the feet, ankles and toes are included with your orthotic purchase.
After carefully evaluating your feet, our chiropractors will determine if custom foot orthotics are right for you. We use a foam casting method and/or computerized scan of your feet to select the ideal foot orthotic for you. Our orthotics are 100% guaranteed to fit you properly.
